Perinatal
Psychiatric Care
Psychiatric evaluation, medication management, therapy, and compassionate support for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and medication decisions during pregnancy and lactation.
Maybe you wanted this season more than anything.
Maybe it happened in a blur of ambivalence, logistics, and quiet dread.
Either way, everyone keeps saying you should feel grateful, and instead you feel unmoored. Maybe you’re realizing how quickly a whole person can disappear once the world decides you’re a body to manage. Every question—about meds, sleep, mood, risk—gets answered with something about the baby.
You nod, but what you really want to know is:
What about me?
You’ve read the books and studies, scrolled the forums, tried to piece together a safe plan on your own because no one seems willing to take responsibility for helping you stay well.
At OutPsych, we treat the whole person in the middle of this impossible equation. We know that your wellbeing is not separate from your pregnancy—it’s the foundation of it. You don’t need perfect; you need honest, evidence-based guidance and a clinician who can hold both: your fear of harm and your right to feel okay.
What Perinatal Care
Means at OutPsych
We provide psychiatric care for the full arc of reproductive life: preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting after loss or trauma. Our clinicians specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, postpartum depression, OCD, birth trauma, fertility struggles, and the emotional fallout of reproductive decision-making.
Medication decisions are often the hardest part. Whether you’re considering starting, stopping, or adjusting psychiatric medication, we’ll walk through every option with care—reviewing the data, discussing risk, and helping you find a plan that honors both safety and stability. You don’t have to choose between your mental health and your pregnancy.
We collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, doulas, and therapists to create continuity and ease. Whether you’re navigating an SSRI taper, exploring non-medication options, or integrating therapy, we’ll meet you where you are—with clarity, warmth, and zero judgment.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that your mental health deserves the same respect and precision as your physical care. You are not a diagnosis—you’re a person in profound transition.
OutPsych provides perinatal psychiatric care in Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Washington DC.

What to Expect
1. Comprehensive Evaluation (75–90 minutes)
A deep exploration of your medical, emotional, and reproductive history. We’ll talk about past pregnancies, losses, birth experiences, and what’s unfolding now. This is a collaborative, no-judgment space.
2. Personalized Treatment Plan
Together, we’ll build a plan that may include medication (including options compatible with pregnancy or breastfeeding), therapy integration, and holistic supports like sleep hygiene, nutrition, and nervous system regulation.
3. Ongoing Care
Follow-up visits (25–50 minutes) provide space to adjust treatment, track changes in mood and energy, and ensure you feel supported. We know progress in this season is rarely linear—and that’s okay.
Ready to Begin?
If you’re ready for perinatal care that makes space for the full truth of this season—the joy, the rage, the grief, and the relief—we’re here.
